It's been a rough month.
What started as a ridiculously bad head cold turned into a nasty case of bronchitis. I'm still recovering so things will still be slow for another month or so. Such is life. Sorry about the dearth of posts.
I did build a bunch of EDH decks while I was sick to take my mind off of feeling "icky". Five color commander is something I have wanted to tackle since I started playing the format, but it is a tough build for a beginner. The mana base is a nightmare and running all five colors means that slots are very, very tight. So what did my circumstances and a brain addled by Prednisone create? Lets take a look!
Taste the rainbow.
There are only 13 choices for a five color commander and four of them are slivers. Slivers are a very competitive build and will put a huge target on your back. I tend to be a lot more casual in my builds and skew my commander choices toward the quirky rather than the best. Since I have been in a tribal mood of late, Horde of Notions was the commander that spoke to me. Elemental tribal? Yep, that sounds like Geena.
So what does the Horde get you as a centerpiece of your build? Well it gives you recursion out of the graveyard, and with a lot of the elemental cards having strong "enters the battlefield" effects, it means that you can actually build a really nice toolbox deck.
