Well here we are on Innistrad and right back into the gothic setting we all know and love. Shadows over Innistrad (SOI) is fantastic set for cube, but in this new NomadGamer article series I will only give you my top 3 picks for every set. I feel like everyone's cube should have there own personal stamp on it and going deep into "best of" lists tends to support a "group think" mentality.
Since we are all new here at NomadGamer, I run a 450 card powered cube - and these are just some the picks that I am slotting in. For my full list you can check it out on CubeTutor.
Well look at that. Red FINALLY gets its 2/1 one-drop creature without a drawback and it is pretty insane. The Gorger also sports a relevant creature type for the cube (Vampire) and its special ability is going to make red even faster. A solid addition to any cube.
Black gets a sick addition to the two-drop slot with the Heir of Falkenrath. A 2/1 creature for 2 isn't bad, but discarding a card to transform her into a 3/2 flyer just makes her insane. I don't know who wouldn't run this in their cube - and as an uncommon it is a cheap upgrade to boot. The art on this card is AMAZING and the bat hidden in the art is a nice touch.
This card... What do you say about this card. I never thought I would see a better 5-drop angel than Baneslayer Angel, but here she sits. With Flying, Flash, Vigilance and giving all your other creatures indestructible you would think that was enough. Nope. With the death of a "Non-Angel" she transforms on the next upkeep to a 6/5 red flyer that does 3 damage to each other creature and opponent when it transforms. This card is up there with the best creatures in the game. Her price tag reflects it too with a foil running at $60.00 at press time. Totally worth it.
